NCCR Demonstrator

The NCCR demonstrator can be inaugurated in November.

Defect cherry picker

The Manitou cherry picker in Bauhalle is defect and we have to replace it. Therefore a Haulotte rental machine is available until we have a new solution.

Measurement equipment

Because we have many active projects (53) this semester the measurement equipment is running out.
Therefore do an early planning for sensors and measurement setups and try to have as many sensors as it makes sense.

Lack of space in Bauhalle

Also space in Bauhalle is limited because of many projects. Please check to dispose as much material early if it is no longer required and also free project space if no longer required.

  Location on old strong floor is preferred. Feasibility study is in progress.
  This includes a test with the air cussions on the old strong floor in November.

  Tendering finished. Two bids were submitted. Decision by end of October 2026.

Hexapod (Chatzi)

For placing the Hexapod on the old strong floor a test with the existing air cussions is planned. This will influence the other projects on the old strong floor.
Today these tests are planned for November. Before construction works, especially in floor B will be performed.

NCCR Demonstrator

In HIF couryard (north side) the construction works for the NCCR demonstrator should be finished by end of October.

10MN Testing machine (Taras)

The tender process is ongoing and we expect to have a decision for a company till end of September.
Afterwards an engineering phase will be started to also plan the reconstruction for the foundation.

If you have material to order please:

• Always tell the deliverer to mention your name on the address
• Inform Bauhallenteam about your order if it will be delivered to the IBK laboratories directly
• Contact Bauhalle to “perhaps” save money before ordering – we have good conditions for many shops.

Bauhalle bookings

Beside our booking system for equipment (Outlook calendars) all sensitive experiments and those who have potential to influence others MUST be scheduled by using the

calendar. This can be done by inviting the calendar to your meeting.
This is required because some projects had to be shifted in past because of influencing others.

Beside group de Wolf (BAUG) and Boltshauser (ARCH), the Chair of Structural Design by Prof. Dr. Jacqueline Pauli will also join Bauhalle in the future.

High season

We’re getting closer to the end of the semester, and projects are getting busier. Make sure to ask Bauhallenteam for support till Friday for the following week.
We also realize that not all students receive the same level of support from their project managers which costs much more effort to Bauhallenteam.

Testing the switchover involves a residual risk of a brief power outage April 21st

The redundant connection and its switchover logic will be tested on 21 April 2026. A backup date of 5 May 2026 has been set aside for any necessary repeats. Safety measures will prevent interruption of the power supply. Nevertheless, there is a slight residual risk of a brief (<1 minute) power outage between 9 a.m. and 4.30 p.m., for example due to faulty connections.

Large specimen

We got 6 large wooden specimen to Bauhalle. They are part of the Dock A project for airport Zürich.
After testing the specimen we try to realize another loading platform in Bauhalle out of it.

Working hours Bauhalle

Opening hours in Bauhalle and in the FireSimulator lab are 7:00-17:00. In this period support from Bauhallenteam can be guaranteed. Please make sure to inform Bauhallenteam in writing if you have to work outside these hours. Hydraulics and Mechanics of both Schenck machine were serviceed in the last week of February.
There is a second phase in June where the new controller will be installed.

Revision and upgrade Schenck

Both Schenck machine will be services end of February (23 – 29. February) and can not be used in this time. Also experiments in Bauhballe using the hydraulic aggregates can be influenced.
In a second period in June the controller will be renewed.

HIC Building and Makerspace

A Makerspace is planned in HIG garage for D-ARCH and D-BAUG which could also be interesting for Bauhalle. In combination with the new planned HIC student project house building there could be new opportunities for experimental research. A needs analysis is currently underway.

Research data management (data safety)
Did you know, under the Guidelines for Research Data Management (RDM) effective since July 2022, ETH Zurich mandates a standard retention period for experimental data.

Standard Retention Period: Minimum of 10 Years: As a general rule, research data (including measurement data) necessary for validating published research results must be retained for at least 10 years after the project’s completion or publication.
