IBK side labs are cleaned and the new storage stage is in use.
Because of the limited space early task planning and information to the Bauhallenteam is essential.

From March on the entrance to Bauhalle from HIL will be changed through the eastern floor.

In floor HIF B all eastern side labs of IfB will be closed from end of February 2021.
The 200kNL Zwick machine is moved to HIF B65, the 10kN Zwick will be dismounted till phase 3.

Also the big cutting machin in HIF B53 is out of usage till phase 3.

Procurement

The available space in the Bauhalle is greatly reduced as of now. Due to the construction work, the IBK loses about 30% of the usable area.

HIF (+) restoration

From December 12th till christmas holiday the Bauhallenteam will be very busy with emtying the labs C36 and C36. In these days there will only be a minimum support for experiments!
In addition the the first weeks of January will also be heavily occupy the whole Bauhallenteam.

According to a school management decision, no university activities need to be taken into account for construction site work.
Bauhalle is already affected by multiple construction works. If experiments can be influenced contact Bauhallenteam as early as possible to discuss possibilities with the construction management.

Ongoing work

• week 49-51: high shelf construction
• week 42-50: closing of floor opening
• week 51-52: clearing of IBK sidelabs
• week 1-3: moving the workshop, clearing side labs
• week 1..?..10 installation centrifuge

Cutting room: IfB will use the cutting room (HIF B54) as an alternative concrete from from Feb. 2021..Feb. 2022. Therefore the big cutting machine must be removed.

Inventory Database

IBK inventory database (http://baug.inventory.ethz.ch) can finally used with your ETH credentials.

Power Interrupt, January 5th

On 05.01.2021 the power shutdown at HIF will take place for the reconstruction of the low voltage and medium voltage system. According to the reconstruction programs, the power will be switched off at 08:00 am in the morning and will be available again at 5:00 pm at the latest.

Timeseries database & Monitoring sites

Bauhalle is working on a data server based on an InfluxDB timesieries database. Especially for monitoring projects the server should simplify setting up user interfaces like:

Also the framework used for the IBK monitoring site, based on WordPress, will be simplified and documented.

Bauhallen-Screen

Some of you probably already discovered the big screen entering Bauhalle.
It is used to show ongoing tasks in Bauhalle and also present projects made in Bauhalle. We would welcome to get your inputs. Please contact Martin for information.

Disposal of experimental material

Alle persons storing material in BAuhalle must label their material till end of November.
Non labled material will be removed when the Bauhallenteam will start clearing the side labs for the HIF restoration.

HIF (+) restoration
Logistics are heavily influenced in the area of gate 27. Large deliveries/removals must be planned minimum one week in advance.

The floor opening in the southern area of the construction hall must be closed in Q4/2020 according to the construction program. For this purpose, work will begin on Monday 19 Oct. 2002. On floor B in the delivery area, only the section under the ceiling opening will be covered with spriuts.
Construction works should be finished by end of November.

According to the new regulation the mask obligation is also a must in side the D-BAUG labs.

HIF (+) restoration
Logistics are heavily influenced in the area of gate 27. Large deliveries/removals must be planned minimum one week in advance.

The floor opening in the southern area of the construction hall must be closed in Q4/2020 according to the construction program. For this purpose, work will begin on Monday 19 Oct. 2002. On floor B in the delivery area, only the section under the ceiling opening will be covered with spriuts. Deliveries are still possible. Everything should be over by the end of November 2020.

From Monday 23rd November till December 11th there will be construction works on the extension of the heavy weight shelf. This could influence the green bender teststand and the wood tensioning machines.

CLOSED AREA – The side labs C34 and C36 will be emptyed till end of the year. Those areas (red in the image above) can not be used till end of 2021.

Coronavirus emergency mode

Persons working in Bauhalle must still use the outlook calendar for scheduling the tasks and each person entering the labs must sign the visitor list next to the toolshop.

•  We need to be prepared that Corona restrictions will be kept in vigour throughout the next months
• This limits capacity of the Bauhalle staff, and support will keep being a bottleneck
• Furthermore, there are already some restrictions by the HIF renovation
• Hence, we need to stick to the priorities (that basically also apply in normal times), giving priority to
  – experiments carried out by doctoral students
  – industry projects with deadlines, conducted by research assistants
  – MSc students and Hilfsassistenten can support the doctoral students / research assistants in such projects as usual
• Experiments that are pure student projects (MSc or even BSc most of the time on their own) are basically possible again, but should be exceptions due to limited capacity (and to minimise contamination risks).

As in normal times, the most important point is to inform the Bauhallenteam of planned tests as soon as possible. Essentially, any tests to be carried out in the fall term requiring support should already have been registered with him. If this is not yet the case, please check whether they are still possible with Bauhallenteam as soon as possible.

HIF (+) restoration
– Logistics are heavily influenced in the area of gate 27. Large deliveries/removals must be planned minimum one week in advance.
– The crane in front of gate 27 will be removed till end of August.
– The centrifuge basement will be installed in mid of August.
Gate 27: The gate will be non accessable till August 21st because of crane works for moving the centrifuge on site.

Booking of IfB machines
All equipment of IfB which must be used by IBK have to be booked through Heinz Richner. The available booking sheets on the labdoors are no longer valid. Please also inform the Bauhallenteam about bookings and use the Bauhallen Outlook calendar.

Walter&Bai – concrete testing machine
Since the machine had many defects in the last 24 months we are in contact with Walter&Bai to get offers for a revision/replacement.

Because of short term construction works on the Bauhalle facade experiments in Bauhalle will be restricted in calender weeks 27/28/29/30 (29.06.2020-24.07.2020).
The facade must be removed for continuing tasks in the new building part.
Especially the space around LUSET is affected. Therefore the project of Severin Häfliger has first priority in week 26 which may affect other projects.

In the construction period all cranes are only usable with great difficulty.

• There is a new schedule for the renovation phases available. Open questions (gates, interruptions…) will be discussed with the project manager in week 24.
