The situation on the strong floor for the autumn semester is very busy. Therefore the projects have to be cleanly planned and executed.

HIF (+) restoration

HIF+ Information Site

From Baukommissionssitzung:

• User of labs are responsible for labeling the entrance doors
• The Pavillons on HPQ are will be demolished from August on, in October HPQ construction will start
• Phase 2 of HIF contruction will be finished in December and is available for use from 16.12.2022! This is also true for the IBK laboratories HIF C34 and C36.
• The new HIF entrance (final version) will be opened by August 2nd.
  This is also the date where Phase 3.1 (Bauhalle) is finished and can be used again.
• There is a new MS-Teams Chat opened for sharing dynamic information of the construciton site. Interested can contact Ela Burmeister or Dominik Werne.

The following list shows open tasks in Bauhalle connected with the HIF refurbishment:

• MAST and LUSET must be protected for phase 3.2. There is no solution yet since the planned contractor has declined.
• A closed room solution for a requested storage room for measurement equipment is rejected by the construction management. We are working on it.
• With the increased Bauhallenteam there is not enough office space.
  An extension of the Bauhallenoffice is planned.
• A desired cleaning space in the HIF courtyard was not realized. The construction management proposes a solution where we should take our casting material to the VAW courtyard for cleaning. This is not accepted by the Bauhallenteam.

Order and cleanliness

It is a great concern of Bauhallenteam to have a tidy laboratory to do cutting edge science. We therefore rely on the support of all of you to:
– have a orderly project area
– return tools and material if no longer used to it’s proper storage location
– contact Bauhallenteams for other “order and clenliness” questions
PLEASE help us to be proud of Bauhalle – especially yet while HIF is under construction.

Phase 3.2 will start in August 2022 , exact dates for Phase 3.3 are not communicated yet.
Bauhallenteam will be occupied with moving tasks for cleaning area 3.2.
MAKE SURE that no material is left in area 3.2 which must be accessed till end of the year!

Replacement for Walter & Bai material testing machine

SEP documents are in preparation in collaboration with IfB. Since the last submission date (1st of May) could not be reached, the request will be treated in September. The goal is the delivery of the new machine with the opening of the renovated lab.

HIF (+) restoration

Phase 3.2 will start in August 2022 – so area 3.2 can be used for experiments in July.
Exact dates for Phase 3.3 are not communicated yet.

Drilling tasks on the Bauhallen floor will be performed in calendar week 18 and 19. There will be severel interruptions of house technics (water, air pressure, light..) in the next months.

ELU – Experienced Lab Users

Bauhallenteam made the first round of evaluating experimental working persons in Bauhalle. The first three months till end of July 2022 is a test phase. Afterwards all rules in the ELU documentation will be followed.

Phase 3.2 will start in July 2022 and end by end of the year. Please inform about requirements for planned projects in that timeframe. Bauhallenteam is planning movements of equipment already.

Dominik Werne is new user representative in Nutzerausschuss. Problems/wishes can be sent to him.

There will be severel interruptions of house technics (water, air pressure, light..) in the next three months.

• Friday April 1st

A new 5t crane for Bauhalle will be delivered. Therefore the center section of Bauhalle (see picture) will be closed. Area 3.3 can only be reached from the stairs to floor A.

• Construction delay

The construction management informed about a delay last week. Phase 3.1 will be finished by end of June 2022 which corresponds a two months delay. This means, that projects can continue till end of June in area 3.2. Area 3.1 will be ready for usage by beginning of July.

• Limited support

Due to absences of Bauhallenteam there will be limited support from 1st of April to mit of May 2022.

In area 3.2 multiple machines/equipment must be protected while the area gets refurbished. MAST, LUSET and the Hexapod will be protected, also against climatic influences. Specifications of the manufactured were given to the Baumanagement.

Crane work is carried out at Friday 11th of March. The HIF courtyard and northern area can hardly be used for other tasks.

Way2Bauhalle – From March 7th the foot-walk to Bauhalle will change because the construction site for the HPQ building will start. Here you can see the new track:

BauhallenTEAM(+)

Bauhallenteam is searching for team support.
Interviews are in progress and we expect to have an additional team member in June/July. Two top candidates are in selection.

HPQ – Specifications

There is an issue with the planned final location of the Hexapod. The problem are the high vibration criteria required by the new HPQ building. (Infomation: https://www.motioncontroltips.com/what-are-vibration-criteria-and-vc-curves/)

It is not clear yet if the Hexapod can be positioned in Bauhalle or on Hönggerberg at all.
Also unclear is, if the requirements can be fulfilled with the existing machines in Bauhalle. Discussions are ongoing including Group Chatzi, PHYS and Abteilung Bauten.

Problems with the heating system seem to be solved.
Pay attention to the construction site influences:

• Noise (Health, Concentration, detection of experimental events..)
• Vibration (measurement accuracy, Stability)
• Dust (measurement accuracy, Health, equipment functionality)
• Climate (can get cold in Bauhalle, <14°C)

Bauhalle – cleaning week

All projects have to clean their test environment till 24th of December. There will not be the official cleaning week (covid reason) but all tools/unused material must be removed to be ready for the new year.

Bauhalle reserves every Thursday morning for meetings. Please try to book all meetings for this time. This helps us to keep concentrated on tasks without too many interruptions.

Area 3.1 of the HIF refurbishment is already closed. Till May 2022 experiments are limited to the old strong floor and LUSET. Therefor early proposal of all projects is required.

Make sure to be prepared for cold temperatures if you work in Bauhalle. The last days we had around 15°C.

Phase 3.2 will probably be the bottleneck for experiments at IBK since there is only area 3.1 left for experiments and storage. Also this fact requires early planning of experimental research in fall semester 2022.
In Phase 3.2 both 10t cranes will be shifted to are 3.1. In addition a new 5t crane will be installed in area 3.3. Finally Bauhalle will therefore have 3 cranes from 2023 on.

Bauhalle operation hours

Please pay attention to the official operation hours of the experimental laboratories of IBK in which support and supervision can be guaranteed. In case of work outside the operating hours Mon-Fri. 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., supervisors and Bauhallenteam have to approve in time and in writing.

HIF (+) restoration

From 22nd of November area 3.1 of the HIF refurbishment project will start. Till then every material to be used in the next 10 months must be taken out to area 3.2/3.3. Project managers are responsible for project specific equipment. Bauhalle will clean the rest of the are.
Already the fire wall is in production. While in production, tasks in the area of the firewall must be discussed with Bauhallenteam and the site workers must be informed.

Gate two (smaller one) of Bauhalle can already be used again, the electric functionality will be available in the next two weeks.

Since space will be very limited in phase 3.1 and 3.2 an early schedule of projects and tasks is very important!
