1875 Osmia abbreviata Morawitz, Travel to Turkestan by A. P. Fedtschenko, p. 96. Type material: Holotype f, “Prope Syr-darjam semel lecta” [Turkestan].-Combination Osmia (Osmia) abbreviata Morawitz in Friese (1911b: 107). Combination Kumobia abbreviata (Morawitz) in Zanden (1988b: 123).
Distribution-Northern Asia: KS, KZ, MGL, RUS(WS); Turkestan.

Nesting biology: Unknown. H. abbreviata might possibly nest in excavated burrows in sandy soil as indicated by the presence of long bristles on the tarsi of the female forelegs, which are possibly used to flip away sand during nest excavation in the ground.
Flower preferences: Possibly oligolectic on Fabaceae (A. Müller, unpublished, based on 4 pollen samples from 2 different localities and on flower records on labels). Flower records: Ammodendron (on labels).
