Mathematical expression on web pages, this has always been a sad story. For a decade, MathML has been a work in progress, and the capabilities of browsers to render MathML range from partially usable to nonexistent.
Javascript based MathJax presents a solution that really works. MathJax is based on LaTeX which has a long tradition in the world of science. The visual quality of mathematical expressions rendered by LaTeX is the best you can get.
