Reconnect Wi-Fi and VPN today
“Reconnect your private devices to the ETH network.”
Over the past few months, the above slogan has been encountered by staff and students on more than one occasion. What is actually behind it?
At present, many ETH members have their private and work devices connected to the guest network of ETH Zurich. Non-registered guests can also move freely within this network. To guarantee more security, employees and students of ETH Zurich should reconnect with the network via the corresponding employee or student domain.
- @staff-net.ethz.ch
- @student-net.ethz.ch
To oerform this, the stored networks must be forgotten («forget this network») and reconnected on each personal device and self-managed work device. For instructions, visit www.ethz.ch/wifi-change.
Network login
Use your ETH user name with the corresponding domain and log in with the ETH network password:
- Students:<username>@student-net.ethz.ch
- Employees:<username>@staff-net.ethz.ch
Ideally from then onwards, only use the eduroam wireless network. It offers the added benefit of an international connection when you are abroad. At many universities and colleges, the Wi-Fi (eduroam WLAN network) can be used with the ETH Zurich network account.
VPN – for the encrypted remote connection
Likewise, mobile VPN usage must be newly connected. For instructions, see www.ethz.ch/wifi-change.
Deadline 21st November, 2018
All those who haven’t reconnected before Wednesday November 21st, 2018, will no more be connected to the ETH Wi-Fi.
