The new ETH-Zurich People Search, www.people.ethz.ch, in operation since the spring of 2009, has been in intensive use ever since. As of 10 September 2009, an update with numerous improvements and minor modifications is available.

Starting on July 1st, 13 universities from the US and Europe have launched the Opencast Matterhorn project to build an Open Source management system for academic video. ETH Zurich, together with UC Berkeley, is a driving force behind this initiative which originates from the Opencast Community. The community is dedicated to foster open technologies, open formats and open (video) content to be shared across institutional and national boundaries.
The idea behind Matterhorn is to enable institutions to easily produce, manage and distribute audiovisual content, with a focus on lecture recording. In this, Matterhorn will be a follow-up to REPLAY, an Open Source solution developed by ITS‘ Multimedia Services; Matterhorn will feature a number of functionalities REPLAY has, such as indexation and search.

On Wednesday morning, July 29th, 2009, we moved a part of the Informatikdienste’s central mail infrastructure (mail.ethz.ch) to new hardware and software. The transfer took place on July 29th between 06:30 – 07:30 and should not have been noticeable for the majority of users. Most users do not need to make any changes to their mail settings, with the following two exceptions: Entourage and the Outlook Web Access (OWA) start page. Now available: the updated student pocket guide «IT Student Services» containing all ITS relevant information [edition July 2009].
As of June 25 2009, our organization is «ISO/IEC 20000» certified! This makes us the first Swiss university to receive this kind of certification.
The new ETH-Zurich People Search, www.people.ethz.ch, has been in operation since March 11, 2009. The environment has proven stable with short response times even during peak capacity such as during initial launching and ETH-wide notification. Read more
