SOSETH – HD Movies
MMS IS has formulated a long-term plan to replace its video projectors in lecture halls and auditoriums at ETH Zurich at regular intervals.
In order to maintain a high level of quality and reliability, ten to fifteen locations and/or devices will be replaced annually. During the recent semester break, video projectors in auditoriums HG F1 and HG F3 have also been replaced.
New “full” HD technology for movie nights
The most recent replacement, mentioned above, also included the establishment of appropriate infrastructure for the use of new “full” HD technology for SOSETH movie nights. As a result, in addition to 35mm movies and DVDs, Blu-ray films can now also be shown. A Blu-ray player has been newly installed in the film cabin. The player’s HD video signal is directly transmitted to the projector via a newly installed fiber optic cable. Sound is fed into the central system via the existing DTS Dolby processor. At system handover, playback quality was graded by all parties as very good. It is probably only a matter of time until digital video becomes standard for SOSETH movies.
