CS3-Workshop@ETH Zurich
Exchange information on Sync & Share topics at the international level at the ETH Zurich.
The first workshop on “Cloud Services for Synchronisation and Sharing” (CS3) came to an end 14 months and one day ago, and this time 90 participants from 40 institutions and 16 got together at the ETH Zurich. 33 contributions attracted participants to the second CS3 workshop, during which they not only had the chance to listen, but also discuss the technical aspects. The international group consisted of people from the areas of computer science, the service units of universities, service providers and software manufacturers, who were able to exchange information and ideas on the following Sync & Share topics:
- Technology & Research
- Users & Applications
- Interoperability
- Operations
Keynote Bitcoin System
Prof. Dr. Roger Wattenhofer is Deputy Head of the Computer Engineering and Networks Laboratory (D-ITET). During his keynote on the Bitcoin system, he explained a number of basic aspects and areas of parallelism in relation to Sync & Share to the enthusiastic audience.
Building Community Knowledge
The exchange of information during such a workshop promotes the idea of “Building Community Knowledge”. We received a DOI for the Book of Abstracts, in order to make it available to an even larger community. In addition to the many slides, the colleagues from ID MMS also recorded the talks and speeches from HG F3. Both of the recorded days can be accessed on the video portal and the CS3 homepage. In order to ensure such a workshop is successful, the overall package must be appropriate, and not just the technical topics. The cooperation with the colleagues from the internal ETH service areas and SV service was super. All of the workshop participants felt right at home at the ETH – which is important! The workshop, which we organized together with the IT colleagues from CERN, strengthened our exchange of information and ideas on relevant questions regarding scientific collaboration – an important topic in the area of storage services.
