ITS Academic Management Applications and Support to become ITS Software Services

An efficient and effective ICT infrastructure and supply-related services are crucial for excellent teaching and research as well as for the efficient administration of ETH Zurich. See http://www.ethz.ch/about/strategy/Strategie_2012_2016_Langversion.pdf (German).

The IT Services (ITS) aim to provide these requirements with the goal being an optimized cost-performance ratio. Our vision: «We are the IT service center for ETH Zurich and the first point of contact for our customers’ IT issues».

In this context, the ITS intends to comprehensively reinforce the area of IT applications. Currently half of IT applications at ETH are developed outside of ITS. Within ITS, different divisions are involved in the development and operation of IT applications.

  • ITS Academic Management Applications and Support (BI): support for central administrative processes
  • ITS User Services (BD): identity management, web development and other electronic ITS services
  • ITS ICT Networks (NET): network administration

For the reasons mentioned above, the ITS would like to bundle resources in this important area by creating one organizational entity and merging technical processes.

As a result, starting Feb.1 2012, the application development group currently belonging to ITS Academic Management Applications and Support will be formed into a new division «Software Services (ITS SWS)». The division, which is responsible for all current OIS services, will continue to be headed by Dr. Giorgio Broggi.

As of spring 2012 the ITS User Services development group is also slated to join «Software Services». Together with additional HR adjustments (especially in the area of project management and Business Process Analysis) this will further reinforce the new division. However OIS operations will migrate to ITS User Services.
