Andrea is a Technology & Licensing Manager at ETH Zurich. She works in a multidisciplinary team, organized under the VP for Knowledge Transfer and Corporate Relations. Her primary responsibility lies in managing and commercializing intellectual property (IP) rights developed by faculty, researchers, and students. She aims to bridge the gap between academic research and industry by identifying inventions with commercial potential, securing IP rights, navigating patent processes, and facilitating the commercial development of these inventions through licensing to companies.
Andrea holds an engineering diploma in Biotechnology from the University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW). Early in her career, she joined Berna Biotech (now Janssen Vaccines AG), where she gained valuable professional experience in vaccine production processes.
Being a scientist at heart, her deep interest in research always remained. This led her to return to academia, earning a doctoral degree from the University of Zurich. There, she expanded her expertise in molecular biology and genetics while finding great enjoyment in supervising and teaching students.
For the past six years in her capacity as a technology manager, Andrea has been working at the intersection of both worlds, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders from researchers to companies. Supporting brilliant inventors and future entrepreneurs by helping them turn innovative ideas into marketable solutions that address real-world challenges and create positive societal change has been deeply fulfilling to her.
