Architectural Daylight Simulation

With a set of online lectures, consultancy, and a platform for exchange between students, we aim to support students who want to employ daylight simulation in architectural design.

25.11.-2.12.2024

First workshop

This workshop will be offered in a hybrid format. It comprises two half-day events (25th November and 2nd December) framing one week of supported, independent project work. The events will be held both online and on-site, while support by consultancy and exchange between participants will be online only.

Participants must provide a design project that they will work on, and that poses challenges that may be addressed by daylight simulation.

Participation is free for accepted applicants.

After 25.11.2024

Recorded input lectures will give an introduction into key topics relevant to participate in the first workshop.

Recorded input lecture 1: The first lecture proposes questions that can be addressed by daylight simulation at different scales. Required inputs for daylight models are introduces and possible data-sources and modelling strategies presented.

Available online from 25th November.

Recorded input lecture 2: The second lecture addresses the interpretation of simulation results. An overview on metrics is given, that can reduce spatial and temporal domains and link the predicted luminous conditions to human needs. Furthermore, the topic of validation is briefly introduced.

Available online from 25th November.
