The value of lectures: Decoding the effectiveness of direct instruction
The lecture has, just like other teaching methods evolved a great deal in recent decades. Today the lecture appears in many different formats ranging from a rhetorically detailed presentation to a series of smaller presentations which include interactive elements. Despite increased criticism, the lecture is not a “bad” teaching method per se, but neither is it a panacea.
In this Refresh Teaching two professors will discuss their own approaches to lecturing and provide insight into what makes them effective for learning.
