Collaborative Learning: Creating and curating knowledge with students

Creating and sharing knowledge in teams requires a number of cross-disciplinary competences from students. In sharing ideas, discussing problems and finding solutions together, these important skills can be practiced and build up, while simultaneously enabling students to reach higher order thinking skills and promoting retention of information. Students who work together towards a shared goal, need to develop a shared understanding of the topic. Ideally, this collaborative learning creates products and experiences that are more than one student could create individually.  In this Refresh Teaching event, we will present two very different examples for collaborative learning scenarios.

Dr. Gunnar Schwarz (Lab. für Anorganische Chemie) and Dr. Heike Willenberg (Dep. Erdwissenschaften) will present their experiences with collaborative learning in their courses “Methoden der quantitativen Elementanalytik” and “CAS Applied Earth Sciences” respectively.
