Prof. Friml is a Professor at the Institute of Science and Technology (IST), Austria. He obtained a PhD in Biology at the University of Cologne and then a second PhD in Biochemistry at the Masaryk University in Brno. He then became group leader at the University of Tübingen and subsequently held the position of Full Professor at the University of Göttingen first and at the University of Ghent later, before moving to IST. Prof. Friml’s group investigates the mechanisms underlying plants’ adaptability during embryonic and postembryonic development. Specifically, Prof. Friml’s research uses a multidisciplinary approach to study auxin transport, cell polarity, endocytic recycling, as well as non-transcriptional mechanisms of signaling.
