Sex / Gender

To think of the body only in terms of the biological, anatomical or physiological, is limited
Judith Butler
Sex (biological)
Sex is considered as being biologically given and is mostly based on the reproductive organs (e.g. male and female). That’s also the first thing that is being “checked” at the moment of the birth. Is the baby a boy or a girl?
Gender (cultural & social)
Gender, on the other hand, is all the social and cultural interpretations of sex. Since our birth and our “given” sex, a whole set of rules and attitudes are expected from us based on our sex (e.g. how you should behave according, what you should fancy, and so on).
