The list of nearby words contains:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>femme<\/em> (first quote 1814, from a letter of Byron)<\/li>\n<li><em>femme de chambre<\/em> (first quote 1741)<\/li>\n<li><em>femme de m\u00e9nage<\/em> (first quote 1826)<\/li>\n<li><em>femme du monde<\/em> (first quote 1849)<\/li>\n<li><em>femme fatale<\/em> (first quote 1879; one wouldn&#8217;t guess that this is taken from an article in that well-known journal of cosmopolitan sophisticates, the <em>St Louis Globe Democrat<\/em>)<\/li>\n<li><em>femme incomprise<\/em> (first quote 1841)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I wonder if there is a bigger cluster of foreign words with a common root?<\/p>\n<p>The other one I know and like, though it is not in strictly alphabetic order, is also quite impressive:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>simpatico<\/em>, <em>simpatica<\/em> (first quote 1864, &#8220;The Frau Professorin was less \u2018simpatica\u2019&#8221;, from the memoir of a certain H.
