Back in August, I <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethz.ch\/kowalski\/2009\/08\/24\/kloostermania-the-program\/\">showed<\/a> how to visualize them on an ordinary laptop or desktop computer &#8212; software available also on its <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethz.ch\/kowalski\/the-kloostermania-page\/\">own page<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p>However, modern enlightened thought holds that availability on even the smallest of netbooks is not a good measure of ubiquity.  Hence, without further ado, I am happy to introduce <i>Pocket Kloostermania<\/i>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/developer.android.com\/index.html\">Android<\/a> version.  An installable package file can be downloaded <a href=\"http:\/\/www.math.ethz.ch\/~kowalski\/Kloostermania.apk\">from this link<\/a>; it, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.math.ethz.ch\/~kowalski\/kloostermania-android.tar\">source code<\/a>, are also available now on the Kloostermania page; the license remains <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gnu.org\/licenses\/gpl-2.0.html\">GPLv2<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what it looks like on the emulator.  <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethz.ch\/kowalski\/files\/2010\/03\/kloostermania-android.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethz.ch\/kowalski\/files\/2010\/03\/kloostermania-android.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1695\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Features\/user manual are:<\/p>\n<p>* The program has been installed and tested only on a Nexus One; it probably requires at least Android 2.0, but should be adaptable to earlier ones.<\/p>\n<p>* On startup, the program displays the graph for <i>S(1,1;173)<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>* Changes of orientation of the screen are recognized.<\/p>\n<p>* Pressing the <i>Menu<\/i> soft key brings three choices (as seen on the picture): <\/p>\n<ul>\n<b>Modulus and sum<\/b> displays on the screen the modulus of the current sum (the two other parameters are always 1 and 1) as well as its value;\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<b>New sum<\/b> shows a text input dialog where a new modulus can be entered; to finish input, press either <i>Done<\/i> on the soft keyboard, or the <i>Back<\/i> soft key, and the new sum will be drawn (with a modulus rounded to the nearest prime number);\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<b>About<\/b> gives the version number and license information.\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It has been well said that Kloosterman sums are everywhere.
