Science Talks: “As above, so below: soil health in climate change”
28.07.2016 @ 18:00 - 19:00
Research up close and personal with Christopher Mikita, ETH Zürich. Talk in English
Human-induced greenhouse gases concentrate in the atmosphere, from where the most notorious effects of climate change originate. Meanwhile, the deceptively silent soil undergoes its own dynamic changes. Soil is a limited resource essential to sustaining life through the support and delivery of functions and services as vital as providing clean air, water and food. Microbes, an essential part of the living portion of the soil, drive many of these processes and rely on the plants we tend and the environments we arrange for them. We will explore the feedbacks between soil health and climate change, by demonstrating how management of the soil can profoundly affect not just the plants, but every part of the ecology adjacent.
