Launch of IT Training Lab at ETH H\u00f6nggerberg, with 7 IT trainees (Federal VET Diploma) focussing on systems technology.<\/p>\n

For the first time ever, IT trainees of ETH are not completing their first year at an IT school, in the respective ETH departments or with IT Services, but instead are using the new IT Training Lab at ETH. From the second year, they will then use the skills they have acquired in the laboratory at their apprenticeship position at ETH. The advantage for them is that they will be able to get to know the heterogeneous ETH environment over the course of a full year beforehand.<\/p>\n

Recruitment process Head of IT Training Lab<\/h2>\n

Following a long and very thorough recruitment process, the new Head of the IT Training Lab was appointed at the end of September. Prior to this, numerous conversations took place with representatives from ITS, the departments and Vocational Training. This also involved a 2-day assessment in the IT Training Lab.<\/p>\n

From a taster day to apprenticeship<\/h2>\n

The trainee recruitment process has already started for the 2nd class in 2017\/2018. And thanks to the new IT Training Lab, application and taster events can also be held for recruiting trainees. During such events the applicants have to solve a number of tasks. This includes Internet research on specific topics, incl. the presentation, installation and configuration of a Raspberry Pi, installation of a web server and the creation of their own small website together with a presentation thereof. All of this provides them with a good insight into the profile of the job. That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not all, however, as these events also enable the Training Lab management and any interested trainers to gain a comprehensive picture of the young people. The candidates identified as suitable during the taster days are then invited to further talks and taster days in specific ETH teams. This means the IT Training Lab also supports the recruitment process for new trainees in ITS and the departments.<\/p>\n

Interdisciplinary courses<\/h2>\n

Over the next few years there are plans to provide interdisciplinary courses (IC) as well as other ETH apprenticeships such as IT Specialist (Federal VET Diploma) with a focus on application development and Mediamatics (Federal VET Diploma) in the IT Training Lab.<\/p>\n
