{"id":52,"date":"2014-08-25T14:02:57","date_gmt":"2014-08-25T14:02:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wpethzprd.ethz.ch\/its\/?p=52"},"modified":"2014-08-25T14:02:57","modified_gmt":"2014-08-25T14:02:57","slug":"doi-registration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethz.ch\/its\/2014\/08\/25\/doi-registration\/","title":{"rendered":"DOI Registration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DOI registration for Swiss research and higher education. <!--more--> The DOI desk at ETH Zurich registeres DOI names for scientific literature and research data in Switzerland.<\/p>\n<h2>Digital Object Identifiers<\/h2>\n<p>Digital Object Identifiers offer the following advantages to managers of repositories, digital collections, research data archives or Open Access journals:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> facilitates identification and addressing of digital objects<\/li>\n<li> contributes to the trustworthiness of electronic publishing platforms<\/li>\n<li> increases the visibility of documents on the Internet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>DOI names remain stable and ensure citation, while URLs frequently change or disappear.<\/p>\n<h2>Operator IT Services<\/h2>\n<p>The DOI desk at ETH Zurich is a service of the ETH-Bibliothek, offered in collaboration with the association DataCite. The local DOI registration infrastructure is managed by the IT Services at ETH Zurich. It consists of a web application for the automated management of the DOI registration process as well as a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Handle_System\" target=\"_blank\">handle server<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>DOI Registration is open to all Swiss higher education and research institutions.
