Written in 1997 by the Comit\u00e9 R\u00e9seau des Universit\u00e9s CRU for French universities, it is currently in use all over the world. It is a hierarchical message distribution system with tree structure and recipient database. A subscription to areas of interest in the tree is only possible with nethz login. This shows that the software was written specifically for internal messages.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethz.ch\/id\/files\/2015\/02\/Msgtree_Baum-e1424769037815.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9431\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethz.ch\/id\/files\/2015\/02\/Msgtree_Baum-e1424769037815-176x300.png\" alt=\"Msgtree_Baum\" width=\"206\" height=\"352\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Currently MessageTree is used primarily for announcements from the IT Services regarding service availability and updates.<br \/>\nMessageTree is slated to be replaced as soon as Sympa provides the possibility of graphical registration in the hierarchical system.<\/p>\n<h3>Further Details<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Webpage <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.ethz.ch\/id\/services\/list\/message_tree\/index_EN\" target=\"_blank\">MessageTree &#8211; Hierarchical E-Mail Notification System<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Poor Man\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Spammer<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Poor Man&#8217;s Spammer was also written in Perl by an ITS employee around 2005. It is a message system for quick mass mailing. However, since the tool does <strong>not<\/strong> include a recipient database, recipients cannot subscribe and unsubscribe.
