System Services (ITS SD) of IT Services at ETH Zurich are part of this community. For this occasion, Tilo Steiger of System Services has commissioned the IT learning company &#171;Young&#8217;n&#8217;Rising&#187; to provide the conference an interactive world map on which site reports about cloud storage can be entered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CS3 Community<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cloud Storage Services for Synchronization and Sharing (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs3community.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">CS3<\/a>) is a community of providers, developers and users of innovative storage and Sync&amp;Share systems. CS3 reports on the progress in data science at all levels: Local laboratories, regional collaboration and global science. CS3&#8217;s applications range from innovative analysis of large amounts of data to scientific distribution and education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Young\u00e2\u20ac\u2122n\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Rising\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Product<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three\napprentices of the IT learning company Young&#8217;n&#8217;Rising have realized a project\nfor the CS3 community. It is an interactive world map on which so-called site\nreports are entered. The site reports each describe a cloud storage of an\ninstitute or a university. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a site\nreport about a cloud you can find out the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Storage space in TB<\/li><li>Number of users <\/li><li>Since\nwhen the memory is active<\/li><li>The Sync&amp;Share software used<\/li><li>The\naverage quota of a user in GB<\/li><li>Integrated software<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The goal of\nCS3 Map users is to exchange knowledge with other institutes and universities.\nUsers can get more information about other storage systems, know where the\nrespective institutes are located and contact other institutes if they need or\nare interested. In this way the storage systems can be optimized. However, the advantages in terms of data protection, control and security offered by an in-house cloud should not be sacrificed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Potential<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the\napplication runs in a docker container, it can also be easily converted into an\ninteractive world map with other purposes. Docker is a software that allows\napplications to run in isolation. Containers containing all the required\npackages can be easily transported as files. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A use for a\nsimilar world map is the CYBATHLON 2020, where teams from all over the world\ncome to Zurich. The site reports describe the respective teams. Spectators have\nan overview and the individual teams can compare themselves with each other and\nget in contact. An interactive world map for the CYBATHLON is in progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who or what is\nYoung\u00e2\u20ac\u2122n\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Rising?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Young &#8217;n&#8216;\nRising is an apprentice-led team that offers services to all members of ETH\nZurich in the form of interdisciplinary projects. In addition to the goal of\nproviding these services reliably and in appropriate quality, the main focus\nfor the students is on gaining practical experience and expanding and deepening\ntheir professional skills.
