Once upon a time…<\/span><\/p>\n

The beginning of a fairy tale<\/span><\/h2>\n

October 1, 1989<\/span> was my<\/span> first day of work<\/span> at ETH<\/span> Zurich<\/span>. <\/span><\/div>\n

\nFor five years I worked for <\/span>«Bild + Ton» technical service<\/span> located at<\/span> HG<\/span> D<\/span> 64.<\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n

\nAt that time Audio\/<\/span>video<\/span> (<\/span>VHS) 16mm<\/span> films<\/span> were current<\/span>.<\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n

\nAfter 5<\/span> years<\/span> I got an opportunity<\/span> to<\/span> transfer to the<\/span> telephony group.<\/span> As a trained<\/span> electrician<\/span> with additional<\/span> training<\/span> in telephony,<\/span> I fit in perfectly<\/span>.<\/span> Soldering irons<\/span> and<\/span> meter<\/span> (<\/span>ohms, volts<\/span> and<\/span> amperes<\/span>) used for programming terminals, were<\/span> replaced by<\/span> VS83 wiring tools<\/span> and<\/span> computer<\/span>s. Today<\/span>, 20 years later, b<\/span>oth are<\/span> still<\/span> needed<\/span>. The<\/span> biggest change<\/span> we see today is that<\/span> telephone systems<\/span> are becoming<\/span> smaller<\/span> and<\/span> consist of<\/span> computer<\/span> and<\/span> software<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Yesterday’s electromechanics<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

Yesterday<\/span>, today, tomorrow<\/span>, I am curious to see<\/span> what the future brings<\/span>. It is sure to be interesting<\/span> in any case.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
