First-year students (Bachelor’s & Master’s)

The IT Services at ETH Zurich are delighted to welcome you to the IT jungle! Here are a few tips for a successful start:

1. Set up your ETH user account

Complete the onboarding process (approx. 10 minutes) at www.password.ethz.ch. This is your key to all other services. And yes, MFA is mandatory – simply set it up using Google or Microsoft Authenticator.

2. Wi-Fi (eduroam)

Connect to the campus network ‘eduroam’ – with your ETH network password <ETH username>@student-net.ethz.ch. This gives you internet access not only in Zurich, but also at other universities.

3. Your ETH email

Your address is <your-username>@student.ethz.ch. Use your ETH password and access it via webmail https://outlook.office.com or the mobile app.

4. Printing made easy

Top up your prepaid account via the IT Shop and use webprint.ethz.ch for printing.

5. Computer rooms & polybox

Access standard computer rooms – from the city centre to Hönggerberg. Plus: 50 GB of storage via polybox, the ETH answer to Dropbox.

6. Need help? – ITS Service Desk

Questions? Our ITS Service Desk is your first point of contact – by email, phone or on site (HG E 11). Instructions and FAQs can be found in our IT Knowledge Base.
