The software available is the same as on the Linux desktops at the D-MATH. We distinguish between two types of Central Clients: <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethz.ch\/isgdmath\/central-clients\/#Compute_Clients\">Compute Clients<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethz.ch\/isgdmath\/central-clients\/#Load_Clients\">Load Clients<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a class=\"index-element\" name=\"Compute_Clients\"><\/a>Compute Clients<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Note: The central IT services have a very powerful<strong> HPC-cluster<\/strong> called <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethz.ch\/isgdmath\/euler\/\">Euler<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Application area:<\/strong> compute jobs(!) like R, Python or Matlab which produce heavy load or use a lot of memory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important:<\/strong> Run your <strong><em>compute jobs<\/em><\/strong> with <em>scheduling priority 7<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Instead of&nbsp;&nbsp;: $ &lt;command-line&gt;\nuse on bash : $ nice -n 7 &lt;command-line&gt;<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, utility programs like an editor (emacs, vi) are working even on a compute client with area: <\/strong>Programs you need for your desktop environment but use too much power on your computer, like firefox, libreoffice or texing large documents. The first time create a directory with you username:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">mkdir \/userdata\/$USER<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>To access the local data of an ada-XX from another ada (or from a linux desktop computer), go to \/r\/ada-XX\/$USER.
