{"id":3507,"date":"2011-12-09T14:29:03","date_gmt":"2011-12-09T12:29:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wpethzprd.ethz.ch\/id\/?p=3507"},"modified":"2011-12-14T10:26:44","modified_gmt":"2011-12-14T08:26:44","slug":"wi-fi-information-mobile-eapsim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethz.ch\/id\/2011\/12\/09\/wi-fi-information-mobile-eapsim\/","title":{"rendered":"Wi-Fi Information: MOBILE-EAPSIM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Important Wi-Fi information for all ETH members who are also Swisscom subscribers.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>As part of \u00abSWITCHconnect PWLAN \u2013 off-campus surfing\u00bb <a href=\"http:\/\/www.id.ethz.ch\/services\/list\/network\/net_access\/off-campus_EN\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.id.ethz.ch\/services\/list\/network\/net_access\/off-campus_EN<\/a> ETH students and staff are entitled to free Wi-Fi use from participating providers.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00abMOBILE-EAPSIM\u00bb<\/h3>\n<p>Following release of the iPhone 5 series, Swisscom subscribersusing iPhones may automatically bediverted to the MOBILE EAPSIM network, instead of to SSID \u00abeth\u00bb or \u00abpublic\u00bb. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.id.ethz.ch\/services\/list\/network\/wifi\/index_EN\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.id.ethz.ch\/services\/list\/network\/wifi\/index_EN<br \/>\n<\/a>\u00abMOBILE-EAPSIM\u00bb is a fee-incurring Swisscom service, which, depending on plan can become very expensive.<\/p>\n<p>For a manual connection ETH members who are also Swisscom customers should select SSID \u00abeth\u00bb or \u00abpublic\u00bb so that data downloads are not charged to their Swisscom plan. For those who are always automatically connected to wireless, be aware that you might automatically get connected to \u00abMOBILE-EAPSIM\u00bb even while in the ETH Zurich environment or at Swisscom hot spots such as Swiss railroad stations.
