On April 19, 2018, the KIT Library in Karlsruhe hosted the first User Meeting\/Round Table on \u201eCoffee Lectures\u201c, the short format for teaching information literacy at scientific libraries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The presentations of the first meeting can be found <\/em>here<\/em><\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201eCoffee Lecture\u201c is a new format to train information\nliteracy in an informal setting. It was introduced in 2015, and is growing in popularity\never since. This first user meeting aimed to promote the exchange between libraries\nthat have introduced the format already.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The focus of the first user meeting addressed the practical\naspects of establishing Coffee Lectures. Additional topics were tips and tricks\non how-to-do Coffee Lectures, the history of the development, and an outlook on\npossible further developments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The introductory keynote speech \u201eThe invention of the\nCoffee Lectures: Everything you always wanted to know about Coffee Lectures\u201c\nwas given by Dr. Oliver Renn, Head of the Chemistry | Biology | Pharmacy\nInformation Center at ETH Zurich. In 2014, he had hit the Zeitgeist with his\nidea of \u201eCoffee Lectures\u201c, and triggered a wave of adoptions. Dr. Michael\nFischer, BLB Karlsruhe, analyzed this new movement in information literacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Short lectures dominated the afternoon program highlighting the \nspirit of Coffee Lectures. Representatives from large scientific \nlibraries and from smaller specialized libraries reported on their \nexperiences with Coffee Lectures.
