Well, looks like this is it.
After working through high school for 6 years, I’m finally going to the place I’d dreamt of attending for quite some time now. I’m sure the next few years are going to be full of surprises, but I think my expectations are as accurate as they can be. And my hopes are up higher than they’ve ever been.
I can’t wait to get to know all the other students. I hope they’re passionate about their interest in their field. I hope I can get to know some people I can share a WG with. Of course, I’m looking forward to the studying itself too. Learning is something that I’m good at and that I enjoy doing. And physics is a very interesting topic.
On another note, I’ve had my first1 taste of the ETH today. I logged into the website for the first time. Not to be pretentious, of course – it’s just a website. But I think it set a tone neatly. It was very efficient and clear what to do. If it wasn’t, one could read from various provided information services. In addition, there was very little user feedback — most profile editing tools only have an “update” button, which (hopefully!) updates the information and (definitely) refreshes the page; that’s it. So: 1. Information is accessible yet must be gained through one’s own work and 2. very little feedback is provided.
On yet another note, I was pleasantly surprised that I was given “https://blogs.ethz.ch/b/”. Just one letter! I guess “first come first served” is also a maxim of the ETH. I might try and compile “the rules” at a later date. Right now, I’m going to bed.
1) Not counting the time I sat in one of my brother’s lectures – statmech for biologists. I understood nothing. Time to change that, I suppose.
