Over the course of two weeks in October and November, the RETHINK space hosted 2 ideation workshops in the context of a new pilot project for an institutional digital campaign. The goal: to be able to tell the stories coming out of ETH Zurich better and more quickly, so that the ideas and insights generated by the community every day spread further and faster around the world. This project is anchored in ETH Zurich’s high profile presence at the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos, which takes place every January. This includes a pavilion dedicated to showcasing the great science and innovation coming out of our university. This year’s theme for the pavilion is Rethinking Creativity, and it will feature research on the topics of quantum, architecture, robotics and computer science. The digital campaign will focus on these topics at the pavilion, but in the run up to the meeting we have an opportunity to showcase current work from ETH Zurich more broadly. Thus, the purpose of the ideation workshops at RETHINK was to mobilize a wide range of internal stakeholders, including communications representatives from the departments and faculty, to help to identify the most interesting, current, headline-worthy stories coming out of ETH for our global audience.
Through this exercise, involving 20 participants across more than 10 departments and teams, we increased our total number of potential ideas to over 200. In terms of next steps, our editorial board will now narrow these down to 50 or so, that will form the basis of the digital campaign.
