As the summer vacations draw to a close, I’d like to point to two upcoming AMS books which might, hopefully, interest some readers…

(1) My lecture notes on representation theory (expanded) will appear in September, published in the Graduate Studies in Mathematics series; the preview material contains Chapter 1, and a fair bit of Chapter 2; the index is also available, and perusing it will give an idea of the range of topics mentioned.

(2) Henryk Iwaniec has also a new book coming, in October, containing his lectures notes on the Riemann zeta function. I haven’t seen it yet, but he told me that the highlight, in his opinion, is the second part which contains his personal treatment of the Levinson method for finding critical zeros of zeta. This should be quite interesting to read…

**Update** (August 29): the AMS web site confirms that my book is already available!

Hi,

Do you and Iwaniec plan to update your great reference “Analytic Number Theory”? I am thinking:

_ternary Goldbach problem

_infinitely many short/long intervals between primes

_perhaps sieves in orbits

_perhaps a few words on functoriality and the Ramanujan-Petersson-Selberg conjecture

Obviously you are among the best-placed to talk of much of this.

Maybe simply add some of your survey articles essentially as appendices.

I would preorder the book if this helps. :)

I could subsidize the production further -after negotiation. :)

Thanks alot for your great work.

…perhaps also something on families of L-functions -guest contibution by Sarnak?

At least Henryk and I plan to go through the book with a fine-tooth comb while he is in Zürich this year, and eliminate as many typos as possible…

Whether we’ll go further is unclear.

Well you know, people love finding typos. Really, IMO add material and typos, life is short.

Well, thanks alot again, you do great things, like Iwaniec.

I am very much looking forward to the book on representation theory. I still do use the lecture notes as reference very often, as I am awfully forgetful. It will be great to have a hardcover copy of this text available.
